I’m back to blogging after spending a great deal of time working on the site re-design. We’ve not only changed colour, but we’ve also added new functions which we hope will make shopping at Jolliman a more enjoyable experience.

The new Summer Preview catalogue is just back from the printer so if you want to receive one and you’re not already registered with us you can click here to request a catalogue. Our new models Chris and Gordon give it a whole new flavour, but for those of you who are fans of Colin, he’s still in there!

You know that Summer is nearly here with the arrival of the new the new seasons mens fine gingham check shirt or the Jolliman Club Classic Jacket. But almost better than that our best selling Foldable Panama Hat, as modelled by Chris, has made a welcome reappearance. The summer photo-shoot went by in a blur – of rain and below zero temperatures. Lucky for me I was able to wrap up warm, but our poor models in Farah Polo Shirts and short sleeve shirts really suffered for us. In fact on our last day we had to tell them to stop breathing so we didn’t get the steam from their breath in the shots! Outdoor clothing sales spike thanks to cold weather

Cold weather conditions and heavy snowfall across the UK has resulted in a huge boost for outdoor clothing retailers.

Regatta, one of the country’s leading outdoor clothing brands said that it had recorded a 30% increase in turnover for December 2009 in comparison to the same period last year. The company believes that a large part of this was due to the recent sub-zero temperatures.

Top selling items of clothing for the winter period include waterproof insulated jackets, fleece lined clothing, overtrousers, waterproof jackets and trousers, hats, scarves, socks, gloves, thermal underwear and boots.

The UK Press Association reports that Richard Cotter, brand president of outdoor clothing supplier Berghaus said “We enjoyed a very busy end to 2009 and that trend is continuing”.

Louise Ramsay, chief executive of the Outdoor Industries Association, warned consumers that appropriate winter clothing was a necessity in the adverse temperatures.
“As temperatures continue to plummet it is really important that members of the public who have to go outside are properly equipped” she said. “If for any reason you get caught outside –or in your car – in the worst conditions, you could seriously regret not investing in garments that use genuine cold weather performance materials and construction techniques”

I'm writing this blog with a sense of déjà vu. My last blog before Christmas centred around the pre-Christmas snow and here I am again in the New Year and we have the post-Christmas snow to contend with! There is a possibility that this has been affecting our deliveries to you as all of the postal services and couriers struggle to get about the country. Rest assured that we are working flat out in the warehouse to get orders despatched as quickly as possible, but unfortunately we can’t control the weather.

Some of you will already have received our New Year catalogue. If you are not registered and would like to order a catalogue from us you can click on the Request a Catalogue link at the bottom right of this page. The catalogue is full of our best selling lines, a selection of some of the fantastic Ladies Regatta products that we now have available online plus plenty of useful non-clothing lines.

The Universal Knob Turner, which is new to us this season, is a simple tool for helping turn small knobs, taps, deadbolts or gas caps, a must for every home!

One of my other favourites is the Heated Towel Airer which is particularly useful in the current climate. I know that it's for drying your washing, but why not try warming your clothes on it in the morning, after all who enjoys putting on cold clothes!

Merry Christmas from Jolliman

While driving to work early on Friday morning I was amazed to see the number of snowmen that had appeared over night. It brought a smile to my face and a lovely warm Christmas feeling to my cockles whilst trying to keep the car from colliding with parked cars, pedestrians and buildings that seemed to be generating a magnetic attraction.

We have luckily not had as much snow as some areas of the UK and there is a debate about whether this is good or bad. Those of us who are still children at heart think that this is very bad as we have not been able to have any decent snowball fights, whereas the more sensible folk are grateful that we have not been cut off as some people in other areas of the UK have.

This will be my last blog until the New Year as our offices are closing from Christmas Eve until 4th January. I know that the gang in the warehouse will be very pleased to escape the arctic conditions that they are currently working in, thanks to all this pre-Christmas snow.

Feel free to keep placing orders during our Christmas break, if you've been given the gift of cash, maybe treat yourself to a pair of gloves or scarf or even one of the weather-proof items from the Regatta ranges for men or women so that you can keep braving the elements while remaining cosy, warm and dry.

Those of you that have been to our website will know that we will not be increasing our prices to cover the VAT increase from 1st January 2010.

No need to worry if you still have some last minute shopping that you need to do. Take advantage of our 48 Hour delivery service and if you place your orders by midday on 18th December you should still have plenty of time to wrap them up and put them under the tree!

With the Met office threatening snow before the end of the week, it's the ideal time to order yourself something from our ranges of Regatta mens and ladieswear. Good news about Jolliman Postal services

The biggest question this week seems to be 'Will my orders be delayed by the postal strike?' The good news is that all goods despatched from the Jolliman warehouse to mainland UK are despatched by a private courier service so they won’t be affected.

A small number of products on our site are despatched from a separate warehouse which currently uses Royal Mail, but they are working on finding an alternative method before the threatened action next week.

If you need to return anything to us, it might be an idea to try something new. There are so many companies out there offering alternatives, for example DHL Servicepoint which is available at a multitude of High Street retailers. Just go to the DHL website and follow the steps to find out where your nearest service point is.

We're just putting the finishing touches to our final catalogue of the year, full of Christmas ideas from clothing to DIY and gardening and health products. If you are already registered with us to receive our catalogues, there is no need for you to do anything except look out for it on your doormat.
